Cisco IOS 15.0 リリース

しばらく前に Cisco の新しい OS「IOS 15.0」がリリースされました。従来は IOS 12 系だったのに、13、14 は欠番になり、15 のリリースとなったようです。13、14 の欠番に関しては Cisco IOS hints and tricks へ Ivan Pepelnjak が「13 は西洋圏で不吉な数字とされているのでスキップ、14 は Tetraphobia（四恐怖症）からスキップしたのでは？」という意図のコメントを投稿していますが、Cisco からの公式コメントは無いようですので、真偽の程は分かりません。

サポートされるハードウェア

リリースノート によると、IOS 15.0 は以下のプラットフォームでサポートされます。実際に Cisco から IOS 15.0 をダウンロードしようとしても、以下に記載の無いプラットフォーム向けの IOS 15.0 は存在しないようでした。

当然でしょうけど 先日、発表された ISR G2 がサポートされていますね。

新機能

新機能も数多くある ようですが、ハードウェアでは 3G HWIC がサポートされたこと、ソフトウェアではスタティックルーティングでの BFD サポートや DMVPN トンネルのヘルスモニタリングが目につきました。

IOS のバージョン管理

http://www.cisco.com/JP/support/public/ht/white_paper/102/1020685/1-j.shtml に記載されているように、12.x までの IOS には「バージョン」とは別に「トレイン」という概念がありました（同じバージョンであっても、トレインが異なる、ということがありました）。「トレイン」については Wikipedia から抜粋しておきます。

Cisco IOSは違う機能のセットを含む、いくつかの「トレイン」に分けられる。トレインはシスコがターゲットとしている顧客の別市場とグループに多少対応する。

  • メインライントレインはシスコが提供できる最も安定したリリースであるようにデザインされ、ライフタイムの間決して機能セットは拡張されない。アップデートは製品中のバグに対処するためだけにリリースされる。直前のTトレインはメインライントレインの基礎となる。例えば12.1Tは12.2の基礎となる。よって、あるメインライントレインのリリースで利用可能な機能を調べる際には、直前のTトレインを見るとよい。
  • T - テクノロジートレイン。そのライフタイムの間新しい機能とバグの修正を得る。よって、メインラインほど安定しない。（12.0より古いIOSでは、Pトレインがテクノロジートレインとして役立っていた。）シスコはあるTトレインの新しい機能を実装する緊急性がない場合における生産現場でのTトレインの使用を推奨しない。
  • S - サービス・プロバイダトレイン。ある会社のコアルータ製品のみに対応し、サービス・プロバイダの顧客のために大きくカスタマイズされる。
  • E - エンタープライズトレイン。企業における実装のためにカスタマイズされる。
  • B - ブロードバンドトレイン。インターネットベースのブロードバンド機能をサポートしている。
  • XA、XB、… - 文書化される必要のある特別な機能のトレイン。

時々、特定のニーズに対応するために別のトレインがリリースされる。例えば、12.0AAトレインはCisco AS5800のために必要な新しいコードが含まれている。

IOS 15.x 以降では Cisco IOS Software Release 15.0(1)M - Retirement Notification - Cisco に記載があるように、これらのトレインが統合されることになりました。統合されたトレインは M リリースと T リリースを繰り返し、M リリースは 20 ヶ月毎にリリースされる予定だそうです。図は Cisco 公式サイトから引用したものです。

    • 一般顧客向けのリリースです。44 ヶ月間のサポートが提供されます。
  • T リリース
    • 最新の機能やハードウェアをサポートし、次の M リリースの基になるリリースです。18 ヶ月間のサポートが提供されます。

Mac OS X 上の Dynamips で Cisco7200VXR を動作させ、IOS 15.0 での show version を取得してみました。
